I love this blog.

I know this situation all too well. That is why my closet holds nothing but jeans, t-shirts and sweats and all the "Cosmo" style magazines are immediately dumped in the trash. The guilt of taking any time for me is overwhelming not to mention the fact there is always something else I just know I could be doing with the time it takes to be "pretty".

Naturally, as Jami's mom, I checked the survey about her blog: liked, disliked, no opinion...guess what I checked. I am the opposite of my daughter...I love spas, massage, pedicures, and haircuts from Fidel. I started when Jami and her brothers were small with My Goddess Time...which was simply having a nice hot bubble bath with the door locked while the kids beat on it from the other side and hinted at serious needs to go immediately to the ER because mom, (now Grammy) was occupied in hot water meditation. When I visit California Jami always puts up with me by scheduling (actually scheduling!!!) a facial for "us" at the Spa Of The Moment (seems they come and go in CA). I feel very honored that she does this...fortunately we each have our facials in different rooms so she doesn't have to listen to my deep breathing and I don't have to watch her fidget! She does make me feel very indulged, however.

I loved your description of the road trip! It is hard at times to remember that these little guys won't be little for long. And that in a few years as they enter teenage-dom(dumb?) we'll probably be DYING for them to want to talk to us. Thanks for the reminder.

Wow! Brings back memories of our family (4 kids) trips in the 50s (no A/C, boring radio and no electronic devices). 4 very excited kids in the back of the old station wagon with mom and dad working very hard to come up with new and interesting games for us to play that would keep us all busy and, if possible, quiet for short periods of time. We played dozens of word games that required all of us to think and reason (the little ones usually losing interest very quickly). There was always 'counting horses or chickens or whatever animals seemed to be most prevalent where we were driving. Often it was just who could be the first to see any kind of animal or the always present 'Burma Shave' signs. Battleship was sometimes successful, at least for the older kids and coloring books for the little ones, both of which were constantly interupted with someone "touching" someone and the resulting loud complaining protest. The best one, which we always seemed to fall for, was 'who could be quiet longest'. Of course there had to be a prize of some sort to get everyone interested in playing. After having kids of my own I really grew to appreciate how incredibly creative my folks must have been and how, although the element of doing it because they loved us and wanted to play all those wonderful games with us was certainly present and part of it, the primary motive had to have been self defense and sanity preservation. Years later, when discussing those vacations with my folks and my sisters, we all seemed to remember those wonderful games as vividly and happily as the places we were going and the actual purposes of the vacations. Thanks for reviving those wonderful memories.

It is always a pleasure to read excellent writing...I am jaded today having been in the (a) grocery store, (b)the pedicure parlor, (c) jiffy lube, (d)Walgreens, (e)hair stylist parlor (sounds like the spider to the fly, eh?)(e) real estate office, (f) bank, (g) gas station...and all I have heard is "ain't", "ain't got none", other double negatives and the splendid demonstration of the #@*& word used 4 times in one sentence, plus several lines of street-ese that I can't make sense of or translate. This, of course, shows me how out of date I am. I compensate the out of date by watching "So You Think You Can Dance" and I can now use sign language to indicate the slang, "for real". I am only aware of all this language abuse after a weekend of explaining to a nine year old the difference between "can" and "may"...by Sunday night he had the concepts and differences down pat. So, I am subscribing to this blog as it is uplifting to read commentary that is humorous AND reminds us in small ways to reach up and give and be aware of others on the planet and keep reaching for the stars though earthbound in the "ordinaries" of ordinary days and nights. Thanks for making me smile today! Thanks for Good Grammar, Good Taste. :) TKWJ

I loved your entry on baseball and how it mirrors life. Unlike football players, pro baseball players play nearly every day, for a whole season, just as ordinary folks go to work day in day out, or take care of kids day in day out. Putting it into perspective, batting 0.300 is considered awesome, but mathematically it means that they hit the ball fewer than one third of the times they are at bat (30%). It makes the rest of us feel more successful to realize that if we struggle 70% of the time and only have what we consider a good result 30% of the time, we are actually pro quality!! Have a great day,
Love,
Melissa

Jami, congratulations! Welcome to the world of cyber. Looking at your website and reading your blog has created pleasant flashbacks!
Just throw a bunch of big rocks up on the hill and call it a rock garden. No water needed, ecologically friendly, and the kids can play in it. Have a great weekend! Cheers!
Love - Aunt
